Payne, Charles Frederick

Comments about this page

  • Charles Frederick Payne was my grandfather. The date of his death in your records is incorrect: He died on 11th February 1919 in 55 Military Hospital, Boulogne, having been transported there from Germany (where he was in the British Army of Occupation of the Rhineland. His wife (my paternal grandmother, Ida Muriel Payne) retained his wartime letters and I am currently writing a book based on his life and military service (Working Title: “Charlie’s Hatbox”). I have also posted a number of articles about his military service on my Blog (see: http://chrispaynebooks.com/blog/category/the-great-war/ for further details )
